The project studies the structural potential of subdivision surface geometry, and its implications for physical construction. The Catmull- Clark algorithm defines a recursive process of progressive refinement of primitive topologies.Sub-divisive thinking affords an alternative conception of the role of the digital model in design. The precision is directly contingent upon the medium of output. The model is subdivided and tessellated relative to the necessary precision of the output problem at hand.

A centralized core modeled on the principle of periodic minimal surfaces holding the main collection. The periodic minimal surface allows continuous development into the main slabs accommodating the public reading rooms. The government archive weaves a semi-private, environmentally controlled spiral volume around the perimeter. The exterior skin is a modular system of pre-cast elements that dilate and contract to receive the spiraling archive.
